More Early Openings: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Just got word that four more resorts are opening ahead of schedule. Earlier today, Vail Resorts announced it would open its three Tahoe properties ahead of schedule. Heavenly and Northstar had originally planned to open on November 16 with Kirkwood following on November 21. Instead, Heavenly and Northstar will open on Wednesday, November 14 with a combined seven lifts and eight trails, totaling 51 acres. On Friday, November 16, Kirkwood will open one lift and five trails, accessing another 40 acres. Over at Heavenly they’ll  power up the Dipper Express, giving access to mile-long Orion’s. All told, by Friday, the three resorts plan to be open with nine lifts, 14 trails and 111 acres, by far the most accessed by one pass at Lake Tahoe. And before we even had time to get the post up, Squaw Valley put out the word that they too were powering up ahead of schedule.  Searchlight, Red Dog, Squaw Creek and FirstVentures lifts will be operational for opening day. But our sources tell us that you can expect additional terrain to open up Thanksgiving weekend.
